Signs your AC needs work
- Air blows warm or only slightly cool
- It cools at highway speed but not at a stop
- The compressor clutch clicks on and off rapidly
- A hissing or rattling noise when the AC is on
- Weak airflow even on high (often a cabin filter or blower issue)
- A musty smell from the vents
Why a recharge alone is often not enough
AC is a sealed system. If it is low on refrigerant, it leaked somewhere. Topping it off can buy a little time, but the cold air disappears again when the refrigerant leaks back out.
The right fix is to find the leak or the failed part, repair it, and then charge the system to the correct amount for your vehicle.
What we check
- System pressures
- Leaks at hoses, fittings, the condenser and the compressor
- Compressor and clutch operation
- Cooling fans, which matter a lot at idle
- Blower motor, resistor and cabin air filter
- Blend doors and controls when the air comes out the wrong vents
Get it done before summer
AC problems are easier to fix on your schedule in spring than in the first heat wave. If yours felt weak last summer, have it checked early.
