Signs it is time
- The engine shakes or stumbles at idle
- Hesitation or a stutter when you accelerate
- A check engine light with a misfire code
- Gas mileage has dropped for no obvious reason
- You are near the spark plug interval in your owner’s manual
What a modern tune-up means
The old tune-up with points and timing adjustments is gone. Today it usually means replacing spark plugs at the interval your manual lists, checking ignition coils, and replacing the engine and cabin air filters.
If there is a misfire, we find which cylinder and why before replacing parts. Sometimes it is a coil, sometimes a plug, sometimes something else entirely. See diagnostics.
What we check
- Spark plugs: gap, wear and the right type for your engine
- Ignition coils and boots
- Engine air filter and cabin air filter
- Throttle body and intake for buildup
- Codes and live misfire data
Done in your driveway?
Plugs and coils are a driveway job on most engines. Some V6 engines hide the rear plugs under the intake, which takes longer but is still doable on-site.
